I AM INTERESTED IN BRINGING THIS TO MY COMMUNITY

JOIN THE NEW VULNERABLE PERSONS REGISTRY

If you or your loved one would be vulnerable in a crisis because of their sensory, movement or communication differences, consider joining the voluntary registry to ensure first responders have the best information available to keep you (and them) safe in the event of an emergency.

Autistic children and adults are at an increased risk of abuse, neglect, seclusion, physical force and unnecessary restraints, which can lead to injury or death.

Individuals and families affected by autism or other neurodiversity may:

1) Register for the KEEP ME SAFE REGISTRY

2) Request KEEP ME SAFE DECALS to place on their home and/or car  to alert first responders that extra care and accommodations may be needed in an emergency or crisis to help ensure the safety of a vulnerable individual and those responding.

KEEPING VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND ADULTS SAFE

If you or your loved one would be vulnerable (anxious, impulsive, dysregulated, unable to speak or communicate without assistance, hypersensitive to sights or sounds, combative, a flight risk, etc) in a crisis, consider joining the volunteer registry to ensure First Responders have access to the best information to help keep everyone safe in the event of an emergency or crisis.

The information shared in the registry will then be provided to local dispatch for safe-keeping until it is needed.  When a home or vehicle that is listed on the registry receives a 911 call or is involved in an accident or a traffic stop, First Responders are being trained to look for the KEEP ME SAFE Decal and indicate to dispatch if the home or car is registered.  Dispatch will then provide valuable information to the First Responders on the call to ensure that they are best equipped to respond to the needs of the registered vulnerable person.

“Please understand. I cannot speak but I am not dumb. My body does not listen to my instructions or yours.
Live not to control me. I am never wanting to hurt anyone! Lead me to safety and treat me with respect to help me best!” -Noel, Age 20

Keep Me Safe Next To Keeping Vulnerable....

KEEP ME SAFE – THE WHY AND HOW

It is our mission to improve the lives of individual with sensory, motor, and communication challenges in our community who may be vulnerable in situations in which they experience stress, sensory overload, an inability to communicate reliably or be understood, etc. This registry is designed with these individuals in mind, paired with the desire of our local first responders to have good information about the needs of a vulnerable person as they attempt to interact with them in the community or provide support to them in a crisis.

To apply to be on the registry and to gain authorization to pick up your KEEP ME SAFE Decals, you will meet with a highly-trained and compassionate staff at Optimal ACCESS.  They will assist you in completing the Registry Form, upload the vulnerable person’s headshot, and provide you authorization for your decal(s).

I’m really terrified of the police killing me. Police fear me because I try to respond but I can’t control my body.

The wellbeing and lives of autistic individuals are at imminent risk. We must also recognize when someone needs support, it’s not a mental illness crisis.
